Up, Down and Around!
I had the opportunity to invite the Preschool 4 year olds into the library to participate in Kansas Reads to Preschoolers. This project emphasizes the importance of reading to our very young children. This year's featured book was Up, Down, and Around by Katherine Ayres. We had lots of fun acting out parts in the story. The children stood up when they hear the word "up", crouched down when they heard "down" and spun around in place when they heard "around and around". Since I had so much fun with the 4 year olds, I also shared the book with the kindergarten students.
A Turkey for Thanksgiving
The second grade students listened to the story, A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting. They colored a picture of a turkey and wrote a caption asking everyone to "Eat some ____". There were many clever options such as Eat some chicken, Eat some corn, Eat some hot dogs, Eat some pizza, Do not eat me, eat some cow, Eat a casserole, Eat some ham, Eat some duck, and Eat some chicken or some fish, please! Just not turkey!
Ten Apples Up On Top
After listening to the story, Ten Apples Up On Top by Theo LeSieg the kindergarten students challenged themselves to hold ten apples on top of their heads.

Authors

One of the interest aspects of being a Library Media Specialist is having the opportunity to meet authors of children's books. Through the years I have met Laura Numeroff, Beverly Buller, Nolan Carlson, Jane Kurtz, Mark Crilley, Toni Buzzeo, Gordon Korman and of course our local author Suzanne Arruda. What amazing adventures they provide for our children!
